So What Do We Do Next


Should we install 120 volt system or 240 volt?

Or do I used wall connector or charging unit?

There three ways to look at this opportunity.

The very first is the 110 volt approach with is the volt NEMA 5-15 adapter. Did I mention that it is included in the package.

This is the slowest charging mechanism but the least inexpensive generally.

What is a NEMA 14-50 outlet?
The second way is a 240 volt outlet installed on a 50 amp circuit breaker and the most popular.

The NEMA 14-50 is the kind of breaker used for electric stoves, water heaters, air conditioners and other devices requiring more power.

It a Single phase, 208-250 Volt AC supply, 60 Hertz. Requiring a Circuit Breaker: 50 Amp because Operating Current: 40 Amp (maximum continuous current). They recommend 6 # AWG, Copper Wire Only. Upsize wire for installations over 100 feet. so much for the technical jar-gan.

The latest survey finds that the majority of the new Tesla owners install 240 volt outlet.

Remember Tesla provides no extra equipment other then that comes with the purchase.

After the correct installation, simply plug your Mobile Connector cord with the NEMA 14-50 adapter into the outlet and the other end into your vehicle.

Please note if installed property this installation will provide a recharge rate of about 29 miles of range per hour of charge for Model S and about 25 miles per hour for Model X, however we are not sure about Model 3..but we expect the same.

What is a Wall Connector?

The third way is the Wall Connector. This is a Tesla charging station, that is mounted to a wall or post near the car, connected by hard wired [See electrician for requirements].

The Wall Connector is a single circuit, that distribute
power to the car with a choice of different amps.
With many power options available, the most common
are 60 and 90 amps circuit breaker that will match the on-board car charger. See the Tesla web site for further details.

But What About My Home Charger?

Like the supercharger, Tesla give you the items needed to hook up the home installation.

Oh so you thought.

You just bought your new charged Tesla from the dealer, or just pulled into my garage, hoping to it plug in, and then wake up the next morning fully charged.

Wait a minute, you suddenly realize the plug in does not fit any deviceI have in the what do I do?

Certainly the salesmen told you that you must prepare your home for charging your new car.

That requires you to hire an electrician to install an outlet near where you park your vehicle.

The most convenient placement to the charge the car is on the driver’s side rear tail light. Keep in mind that the comes with 20 feet charging connector cord and 120 volt NEMA 5-15 adapter.
Most customers want install a 240 volt NEMA 14-50 outlet which will charge their Tesla vehicle at the rate of about 30 miles of range each hour. Which I might add comes with the new car.

What are opportunities for home charging?

Hire a licensed electrician to prepare your home.

Give electrician a time table with delivery date.

Most electricians will need to visit the home to provide an accurate quote.

You need to know if your electrical system has enough power available for home charging. That means if you add the entire current house load, then estimate the additional room needed for my new charging station?

In order for the electrician to calculate a load of all existing circuits he must remove the cover from the panel to use his equipment that measure the load.

After determining what additional equipment will be needed and length from where new charger will be placed, your electrician will put together a set of plans and the cost.

Every installation is different. Every city have different requirements.

Permits must be applied from the local or city building department before and only then: after they blessed, can you proceed and only then the work can begin. The installation itself typically takes less than a day, although some larger projects may require several return visits.

Most building departments then require a follow-up inspection to sign off on the original permit. The main reason for these requirements are to protect us and our neighbors and it also provides information to the power companies that also need to keep up with the growing demand.

The electrician will need to meet the inspector on-site to review and sign off on the installation. Building departments inspectors usually work between (9PM and 3PM).

Don’t delay contacting an electrician; the installation of an outlet can take up to a month or more to complete. So how did that only take a day to complete.

So How Does It Work?

Tesla electric vehicles use a charger onboard to convert AC (alternating current) from a wall charger to DC (direct current) to batteries that are stored in the bottom of the car.

Tesla claims that they are the only manufacturer capable of charging their vehicles in the 170 miles of range in as little as 30 minutes.

Superchargers are placed along well-traveled highways, in congested city shopping centers and are primarily located where you’d stay for several hours at a time.

Business such as hotels, motels, restaurants, and the civic minded see the need for growth.

These Superchargers are the heart of the boast which consist of multiple chargers working in parallel coupled by some great energizing.

First and foremost, they access to every cell, which means they can control each cell or if you use their terms. They treat like a glass of water.

As the glass fills up, you then can tell it to stop, or fill it up to the last drop. As they say “reduce the flow to catch every last drop. “

So how do we equate this In battery terms.

This means you can balance the battery load by controlling each cell.

The total voltage, is automaticity control by the computer displayed in the car.

As the voltage nears to a full charge, in this case reaches right to the last drop, the computer gradually reduces the current to a trickle and stops.

So is it good to charge its 100 %, maybe not. If you charging overnight, no problem but on the other hand, if I’m traveling, I may be short on time.

They suggest charging it between 70% to 80%.

Either way the supercharger makes it easy.

You simply pull up, pull your plug in out of your car, insert it into the supercharger and with in 30 minutes you should have enough power to get to your destination or the next charging station.
